ACTIVITIES IN THE ZONE

El Sauzal was an important place in prehispanic Tenerife, the coastal zones were chosen places by the Guanches where they made their settlements due the the fact that it was a rich territiory for natural springs and green farming land together with a mild annual climate. The origen of the municipal`s name comes from the many willow trees that it exist in the zone, previously known as  El Sauzalejo.  Although nowadays it still conserves some examples in the Lavaderos Park or in the channel of its ravines. 

The Municipality belongs to the wine region of  D.O. Tacoronte Acentejo, highlighted by The Wine Musuem or Casa del Vino and The House of Honey or Casa de la Miel. 

The streets in the city centre are fine examples of traditional Canarian architecture. The Saint Peter`s Church, La iglesia de San Pedro Apóstol, declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in the year 2005 and dedicated to the patron saint of the municipality (29th June) and the chapel of Los Ángeles, both from the 16th century, are two of the most important monuments of the town.

It also counts on recreational zones, a network of public footpaths , for nature-lovers, beach and mountain. For example, the coastal cliffs, the park and viewpoint Los   Lavaderos, the recreational zone of Las Calderetas…

It also has an ample gastronomical offer for winers and diners, from typical eating spots like guachinches to typical popular and modern cuisine. 

There is also  a chemist, a health centre, bus stops and taxi, Theatre-Auditorium, cafés, bakeries, newsagent’s, florist’s, grocer’s, minimarket, restaurants, etc, as well as a daily market.

El Sauzal is halfway between Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz and 10 minutes from the Los Rodeos airport.

Routes in the municipality

One of the most suitable routes for discovering the patrimonial and artistic history of El Sauzal is the footpath called  La Ladera. You start from the  San Pedro Apóstol Church anad continue towards the museum called Casa Museo de la Sierva de Dios and its gardens. The next stage is to go past the Chapel Ermita de los Ángeles and the Parque de los Lavaderos , perfect for relaxing and recharging your energy. 

Footpath Las Breñas and Paseo  Litoral Costa Acentejo (Promenade).

This is one of the best routes for practising hiking in Tenerife and for enjoying the Protected Landscape of the Acentejo coast.

Theatre
